The Committee

So, who’s responsible for running these shenanigans, then? Find out below – click each name to find out more about them:

Chair – Siobhán Greaney (Badge C011: Shivers)

 

Often better known as Shivers, she has been attending and gophering at Discworld conventions since 2008. Shivers was “volunteered” to chair the 2015 IDWCon, and hasn’t let go of the reins since. She truly believes the Discworld series to be the best books she has ever read, and Discworld fans to be the most welcoming people she has ever met. Honoured to help with the plotting and planning again, and especially to see fans new and old gather together and have fun.

Vice-Chair – Rachel Scanlon (Badge C012: Probably Rachel)

 

The lesser spotted Vice-chair can usually only be seen as a blur at IDWCon. They flit from room to room trying to anticipate problems, make sure things are in the correct place and generally look busy. This committee member can be persuaded to stillness with the temptations of chocolate, coffee and rum. Knowing that Discworlders are the most marvellous bunch of people in the world, she will also happily stop and chat for 5 – maybe even 10 – seconds before flitting off again.

Treasurer – Faith Morris (Badge C014: Faith)

 

Faith has been “taming the numbers” for the last two Irish Conventions, with 2019 being her third term, after 10 years turning up to Discworld Shindigs. She enjoys long nights of crafting, spreadsheet wrangling, and getting too excited about IF statements.
In 2017 she was part of the trio that put together the not-a-locked-room-locked-room puzzle event, and is putting her love of cryptic puzzles to good use by planning to confuse even more attendees this time round. The evil laughter is involuntary and in no way connected, honest.

Programme – Rob Grundy (Badge C018: Feyd)

 

Most often found in a suit of armour (of one description or another), our Programme / Webmaster also partakes in running and co-running events such as Rockbusters and Luggage Wars, and often helps out with setup and tech for many other events too. It is, therefore, not uncommon to find Rob flitting between one thing or another at conventions (but, due to the armour, not often actually running). He does stop at some points for a rest, where he enjoys a good chat and also enjoys the “occasional” pint.

Membership Officer – Alan Keatinge (Badge C020: Mistake Not...)

 

Given his first Pratchett book by an old Uni mate in the mid 90s, Phaze read it eagerly, before going back to The Colour of Magic. Fast forward to 2005, when pTerry was coming to Dublin on his tour. Having met a bunch of lovely people in the queue, he went home and signed up for the 2006 International Convention. Many other cons and trips to Wincanton followed. Responds best to Phaze, Oi you, and People looking lost and needing help. Despite being Irish, Phaze has sworn off alcohol.

Head of Desks – Fergal Mac Carthaigh (Badge C015: Fergal Monster)

 

Fergal’s penchant for puns and gaming has caused those around him to headdesk so many times we decided to put him in charge of all headdesking. These interests have also led him to be on several different convention committees and wrangle organisation out of anarchic groups of fans. If you want to help at the Reg Desk, this is the committee member to talk to.

Tech Gaffer – Ken Cornhill (Badge C017: Gaffer)

 

Been involved in sound and light for many years, did tech for the first Irish Discworld and up to current times, loves to talk about tech, been tech director for 2012 Birmingham Discworld Con. DJ and Performer of music. Man of few words when it comes to writing bio’s.

Art – Amber Grundy (Badge C019: The Artful Nudger)

 

With a penchant for cider, shiny things, and perhaps a slight obsession with dragons, our official Con Artist has been a regular background figure at many conventions since 2008. Since then she has produced the artwork for the Clacks board game, created lots of art for the last three Irish conventions, and tried to ensure that one of her dragon drawings appears at every Discworld charity auction she could get near. Often found lurking somewhere near the bar, Amber is also known for her terrible puns (an affliction suffered by many a convention goer).

Design – David Hathway (Badge C013: Narco Cynicalist)

 

David has been attending various assorted Discworld Conventions for – blimey – over twelve years, and reckons he's getting really good at blending invisibly into the foreground by now. His job at the past two-and-a-bit IDWCons has been to help make all of the things extra pretty (or at the very least stylistically cohesive), and he’s even been dragooned into actually running the odd event or two (and some of them were very odd). His interests include quizzes, cider, cheese, hats, lurking in dark corners, pedantry, and cats.
